Purushottam Diwakar

Mr. Purushottam Diwakar is an accomplished international photojournalist and documentary photographer with 27 years of experience since 1998, known for his profound work capturing the diversity and complexity of Indian and African society. His photographs have frequently featured in India Today and on its covers. His international projects include uplifting cocoa farmers in Ghana, promoting tourism in Thailand, and research journalism in Congo and Dubai.

Mr. Diwakar’s portfolio includes significant collaborations with NGOs and organizations like UNICEF, Care India, VSO and Cairn Oil and Gas. He has covered critical events such as the Rajasthan drought, Gujarat earthquake, Jaipur oil tank fire, Jaipur serial bomb blast, and the Godhara Massacre. Through his lens, he addresses social issues including women’s health, education, and Rajasthan’s water crisis.

In 2012, he founded the Imagine Photojournalist Society, a program with a unique focus on empowering female photojournalists, known as “Camera Commandos.” This initiative provides rigorous training for women in journalism, enabling them to report effectively in crises like famine, conflict, and disaster. Mr. Diwakar’s dedication has not only advanced the field of photojournalism but also inspired the next generation to pursue meaningful, impactful work.
